Ketchum’s Kody Starks - Athlete Spotlight Presented By Grove Dental Associates
Whenever Kody Starks laces up his cleats, he knows that he is prepared for whatever the game throws at him. He knows this because of all the preparation he has done leading up to game time.
“In order to be successful, it takes a lot of work,” Kody said. “It takes motivation and self determination to do it. You have to practice outside or normal practice. You have to have a ‘want to’ mentality to achieve the goals that are important to you.”
Starks attends Ketchum High School, where he is a senior. He plays pitcher, and outfield for the Warriors baseball team. Kody has been playing the game of baseball for sixteen years. “For as long as I can remember, I have loved playing baseball,” he said. “It’s like my happy place.”
There have been many people throughout Starks’ life that have helped shape him into who he is. “My biggest influences and role models are the people I’m closest to,” he said. “Especially my parents, coaches and friends. Coach Knoten has been a big help on the baseball field. Not only has he made a huge impact and helped me further my baseball career, he has also helped me mature and not be afraid to talk and be a role model for the underclassmen. He doesn’t just teach history he also teaches respect, responsibility and other important aspects in life.”
Kody says that he has made a lot of great memories during his time on the baseball diamond, but there is one moment that stands out as his favorite. “My sophomore year we were playing Cascia Hall,” he said. “I pitched the entire game and only allowed one person to score. I also hit a two-run home run to clinch the victory. It was really awesome to be able to achieve that.”
Along with his sports, Starks is also a member of the National Honor Society and a part of Leadership. After graduation, Kody plans to attend Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa to play baseball and work towards a degree in Pre-Engineering.
