Inola Longhorns - 2020 Basketball Preview Feature - Presented by Roberts Auto

BOYS
Coach: Clyde Barkley
2019-20 Record: 17-13
It’s rare when the Longhorns season record has more setbacks than victories as the Hall of Fame coach Clyde Barkley begins his 42nd season as head coach. And there’s little doubt the Gold and Black will return to its winning ways as the Longhorns return four starters and 11 lettermen back to compete on hardwood that bears the name of the head coach. Three year letterman Dalton Norman (6-2, Sr.) joins four other seniors as the foundation of success this year after averaging 7.4 points and 6.1 rebounds a year ago including Hank Parsons (6-2, Sr.) who averaged 8.8 points and four rebounds, Zach Biggs (5-10, Sr.) who delivered non-stop defensive efforts plus 6.0 points each night as well as Garrett Cummins (5-11, Sr.) who despite his size gathered 5.0 rebounds and 7.3 points and Walt Spurlock (5-8, Sr.) who totaled 3.4 points per game. The shooting touch of Tucker Ford (5-11, Jr.) adds an all-around playmaker’s talent to the lineup along with sophomore guards Caden Thomas (5-11, So.) and Drew Brown (5-10, So.). “Game time experience is an advantage for this year’s team and our young guys have the potential to be game changers,” replied Barkley while assessing this year’s roster. “We’ll play Inola basketball, up tempo offense with face-to-face man defense. SOMETHING TO WATCH– Clyde Barkley’s career record stands at 689-370, a 65 percent winning margin, having coached all 1,059 games at his alma-mater, Inola. Currently the 1973 IHS graduate ranks 5th all-time among Oklahoma boys basketball coaches total wins, eleven wins shy of 700 victories.
