Pirates Git N Split

BOYS

Coach: Brandon Heath

2019-20 Record: 17-10

Graduation has hit the Locust Grove Pirates hard. Head coach Brandon Heath said 11 players have graduated or left the program due to moving. Defining new roles is the top priority coming into the season. “Offensively we want guys to do their job, whatever is asked of you, screen, crash boards and make extra passes,” said Heath. “Defensively we want hustle, blocking out and know your assignment.” Cole Holman (6-2, Sr.) is a strong player that can fill it up at forward. Holman averaged 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds last season. Payton Dean (5-10, Sr.) is improving as a shooter and could become one of the go-to guys this year. Nate Brown (6-2, Sr.) brings senior leadership to the floor for coach Heath. Jay Coaltrain (5-10, Sr.) averaged 3.1 points and 1.1 assists per game last year. David Fogleman (5-9, Jr.) brings toughness to the court for Locust Grove. A slasher with the ball, Fogleman is returning to the court after suffering an injury that put him out last season. Jake Bible (5-10, Sr.) will play guard where he averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 assists last season. Kyle Heath (5-10, Sr.) is a strong player who runs excellent screens and can shoot. Other players to watch include Eli Bond and Tashown Shamel. SOMETHING TO WATCH – Despite losing 11 players over the summer, the Pirates have a strong nucleus and should give opponents a good game. If they can come together, team chemistry could carry this team in 2020.
