250 Arvest Dec 2020

Coach: Gary Hollingshed

2019-20 Record: 19-6

Nowata will return a strong group of seniors according to head coach Gary Hollingshed. It’s a group that has played together for the last couple of seasons and will look to take that next step to becoming one of the top teams in the class. The up-tempo style is led by Gabe Velasco (5-6, Sr.) who is a two-time All-Conference player. Last season Velasco averaged 10 points and 5.5 assists per game. Another two-time All-Conference player is Mark Price (6-2, Sr.). Price will start at guard where he knocked down a team high 23 points a game with 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Trenton Smith (5-9, Sr.) averaged 8.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a junior, while Jace Thompson (5-9, Jr.) hit 3.5 points a game and grabbed 4.0 rebounds. Skylar Stevens (5-10, So.) was the best freshman for Nowata last year and is ready to make to jump to varsity. Other players to watch include Cole Atkisson (5-11, Sr.) who was the leader of the JV team, Pat Robertson (5-11, Sr.) and Jayden Bowman (6-0, Sr.) at forward. Bowman was the 6th man last year for Nowata averaging 4.5 points and 4.5 rebounds a game. SOMETHING TO WATCH – Price was the Offensive Player of the Year for NEV conference after breaking his own school record for 13 three-pointers in a single game and going over 1,000 career points. Also look for Bowman to make an impact and Robertson to crash the boards.
