Afton’s Lauren Osterberger : Athlete Spotlight - Presented by Grand Savings Bank

By Travis Sloat
Afton High School senior Lauren Osterberger is busy young woman.
“I’m in cheer, cross country, girls powerlifting, and track,” Osterberger said. “I’m also involved with student council, NHS, NTHS, yearbook, and the Interact Club. It’s taken a lot of hard work to become successful. I have spent countless hours running, weight training, and flexibility to improve my performance.”
As expected, it would be difficult to stay that busy without help, and Osterberger credits her cheer coaches from her freshman year with being her biggest role models.
“Our head coach was Mrs. Fuser,” she said. “She inspired our cheer team to put in the hard work that was required to be competitive in the sport of cheerleading, which ultimately led to our success throughout the season. She dedicated countless hours to practices at all times of the day because she cared about us and wanted to see us succeed.
“Our assistant coach was Mrs. Street,” she continued. “I’ve known her since my seventh grade year. During my freshman year she joined the coaching staff and conducted our physical training and conditioning. She always pushed us to our limit. She is steady and strong and always made us feel like we could count on her.”
Osterberger said the highlight of her career came when she was able to to perform at the state level.
“It was my opportunity to perform competitively at the state competition my freshman year, as well as cheering on our football team as they won the state championship,” she said. “The highlight of my academic career is my recent acceptance to the University of Tulsa for the fall semester.”
Osterberger was also the state runner up her freshman year in the girls division of the state powerlifting competition.
