Bluejacket’s Shelbie Baker – FFA Spotlight Presented by Oklahoma AgCredit

By Ember McElrath

Joining the Bluejacket FFA in the tenth grade, Shelbie Baker, now a senior, always wished she had joined sooner.

“My favorite thing about FFA is meeting new people and growing closer with them, as well as building stronger relationships with the kids in my chapter that I’ve grown up with,” said Shelbie.

Shelbie is highly active in FFA, competing in shooting sports, food science, and the Wildlife CDE’s. Not only is Shelbie an active member of FFA, she is also involved in basketball, softball, track, cheerleading, FCCLA, NHS, Phi Theta Kappa, as well as the Biology Club at Bluejacket.

With this being her last year, Shelbie has a lot to look forward to.

“This year I will finish strong,” said Shelbie. “I plan to help the younger kids get their animals ready for shows, compete in contests of my own, and hopefully make a positive impact on those around me!”

Even though Shelbie has only been in FFA for two years she has learned so many great lessons along the way.

“What I love about FFA so much is that it is for anyone and everyone, you don’t have to be an ‘Aggie’ to benefit from this organization,” said Shelbie. “In FFA you learn so many life lessons, basic life skills like communication, hard work, time management, budgeting, and many other necessary skills and qualities are learned and used in this organization.”

After high school, Shelbie plans to attend Pittsburg State University to earn a degree in secondary education as well as becoming a psychometrist.

Even though she may be leaving FFA after this year, she is not leaving it behind all together. She plans on one day having a large garden, lots of animals, and will also encourage the next generation of students to join FFA.
