Commerce Tigers
BOYS
Coach: Terry Tyree Jr.
18-19 Record: 12-13
When you talk about Commerce basketball, you have to start the conversation with the play of returning senior Danny Salinas (6-1, Sr.). The dynamic guard/forward is as versatile as they come. Last season Salinas averaged 13 points with 7.0 rebounds. Head coach Terry Tyree Jr. is excited to be returning all of his starters from last season. “We have a deep team with talent which should help us make a run in the postseason,” said Tyree. “Kids have been working hard in the offseason and summer since we lost to Chouteau in the regional tournament last year. They were not happy with the results of their season and expect to be better.” Jayden Myers (5-10, Sr.) is another senior with high expectations. Myers averaged 11 points a year ago. Ty Jauret (6-4, Jr.) and Cruz Munson (6-5, Sr.) are two big forwards the Tigers will lean on in the paint. Lance Hyatt (5-8, Jr.) averaged 7.0 points and 4.0 assists last season as a sophomore. Caleb Eulitt (5-7, Sr.) and David Dominguez (6-0, Sr.) provide depth at guard with Hunter Bissell (6-3, Jr.) doing the same at forward. Also look for Trysten Bundy (6-1, Jr.) and Chris Wallen (6-2, Sr.) to contribute this season. Assisting the team this year are Jerry Myers and Jimmy Haynes.
GIRLS
Coach: Brooke Jackson
18-19 Record: 12-11
Building off the success of last season is the top priority for head coach Brooke Jackson. “We are really excited to build off what we started last year. We have a great group of returning seniors ready to lead the way,” said Jackson. “We have more depth than last year.” Morgan Connell (5-6, Sr.) and River Friel (5-5, Sr.) are two guards expected to have great seasons. Connell averaged 16 points with 3.0 steals while Friel averaged 8.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest. Sunny Crawford (5-8, Sr.) is the go-to player in the paint. Dawn Convirs (5-6, Jr.) and Marisa Scott (5-4, Jr.) play solid defense and can score. Convirs averaged 9.0 points last year. Miriam Nino (5-3, Sr.) and Giselle Gutierrez (5-4, So.) will see time this season at guard with Ashley Myers (5-8, Jr.) playing forward. A couple of newcomers in Baylee King (5-3, Fr.) and Katy Crawford (5-10, Fr.) are impressing every in practice. Gaby Medina (5-2, So.) adds depth to an already deep team. Overall this squad has several pieces of the puzzle in place. John Medlin will assist coach Jackson this year.
