Commerce’s Marissa Scott - Spotlight Presented By Welch State Bank
Marissa Scott is a senior at Commerce High School where she starts at shortstop but has also played second and third base for the varsity fastpitch softball team. As a member of this team, Scott said she loves how her teammates fights through adversity and refuses to quit.
“What I love most about my teammates is how hard we work. We always seem to come face to face with adversity and we always come through better than before. We never give up,” said Scott.
Like many student-athletes, Scott is very involved in school activities. As a senior, Scott plans to play four sports this season.
“Outside of softball I am involved in cheer, basketball, and will be restarting my soccer career. I’m involved in National Honor Society, Student Council President, and take part in many other clubs,” said Scott.
Returning to school was something Scott was excited to do. And returning to the field was a big deal for Scott and her teammates.
“I was very excited to return to school and the field. I was anticipating softball season so much. I’m very happy we’re getting to have our season and hope we get to finish. We all practice social distancing and always remember to mask up,” said Scott.
After graduation next spring, Scott plans to attend college and possibly continue her playing career at the next level.
“My plans after I graduate are to hopefully continue my softball career at the collegiate level and begin my degree in forensic psychiatry,” said Scott. Scott said her mother has been a source of inspiration for her throughout her life.
“My mom has been the biggest Influence and my biggest fan. She never fails to show me where hard work can get me. She’s a very hard-working woman and I look up to her and love her very much,” said Scott.
