Jay’s Lila Sherman - FFA Spotlight Presented By Oklahoma AgCredit Vinita
Lila Sherman of Jay High School is as wellversed in FFA as you will find. Sherman has held the offices of Chapter President, Reporter, Treasurer and Chaplin.
“I have been an active member for five years,” said Sherman. “During my show career I have shown pigs, boer goats, Beef Master Heifers, and Lambs. My plans after the showring include raising show goats and raising Beef Master cattle.”
Working in the barns and being in the show ring is something Sherman loves doing.
“What I love about being in the FFA is my time in the barns and the show ring. Showing has been a passion of mine since the first time I stepped into the show ring. The way to be good in the show ring is to spend time in the barn. I love animals and anything that has to deal with them so showing became a natural for me and my time in the FFA,” said Sherman.
Sherman loves FFA and representing Jay High School at FFA events or other activities she is involved in as a senior.
“One of my favorite things about Jay Public Schools is the people that I’ve gotten to know. One person that comes to mind is Dianna Woods, she is my college government teacher and one of my favorite teachers. She has been very supportive of anything and everything that I’ve accomplished in my time at the FFA,” said Sherman. “My favorite teacher is Mrs. Silkey. She teaches english in my high school. Thanks to Mrs. Silkey, she has made english fun and easy to learn. She keeps the learning environment fun and easy to understand, this is one reason I like her.”
Sherman is also involved in STUCO, Beta Club, Cherokee Scholar, Oklahoma Girls State Delegate, Grand Saving Junior Bank Board, Arvest Senior Bank Board, Book Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Junior Class Officer. Oh, and she’s a varsity cheerleader.
Now facing graduation, Sherman is looking forward to her next chapter. “My plans are to attend Northeastern State University in Tahlequah and major in Speech Pathology,” said Sherman.
