Welch’s Nathan Beaty – Character Counts Presented by Welch State Bank

By Travis Sloat

Welch senior Nathan Beaty won’t play a sport unless he’s able to get on both sides of the ball. The Wildcat plays quarterback and cornerback for the football team, pitcher and catcher for the baseball team, and of course he plays basketball too.

When asked what he does in his free time, his reply was short and sweet.

“What free time?” He asked. “I am always trying to get better at the sport I’m playing, both now, and for the next one.”

Beaty said a personal goal for him this year is to make the All Conference team, and get 11 wins with his team, as well as a playoff win.

“I try to be a good role model and leader for my teammates both on and off the field or court,” he said. “I give rides to the kids when they need one after practices, and I stay after practice to help others when they need help. I also try to encourage anyone who needs it.”

Beaty said passing on his knowledge is what defines character for him, and wants that to be his legacy.

“I try to teach them how to keep the ball under pressure, how to finish a shot after contact, and how to stay in front of someone without fouling,” Beaty said. “Show them how to move their feet and not use their hands.”

After high school, Beaty said he plans on going to Pitt State for their construction management classes.
