These are the top seven players in the Grand Lake area hub, ranked by VYPE editors regardless of position.

#1 Kyron Downing – RB – Junior – Vinita Hornets As a sophomore Downing rushed for 557 yards, scoring five touchdowns. Look for Vinita to find ways to get the ball into Downing’s hands.

#2 Loran Kirk – WR/DB – Senior – Jay Bulldogs Kirk (6-2, 185, Sr.) had 820 yards receiving with 540 yards rushing last year and 12 touchdowns. On defense he had 60 tackles and 10 pass breakups.

#3 Kolby Dean – OL/DL – Senior – Commerce Tigers Dean (6-0, 195, Sr.) recorded an amazing 20 sacks with 179 assisted tackles and 68 solo tackles. He also anchors the offensive line.

#4 Clay McCormick – C/LB – Senior – Miami Wardogs McCormick (6-0, 230, Sr.) will start at center. Having a player like McCormick up front will put the offensive line in the correct blocking call and make life easier for running backs.

#5 Eli Carr – OL/NG – Senior – Afton Eagles Carr (5-10, 275, Sr.) is back to lead the offensive line, which is big for the Eagles. Carr also recorded 47 tackles last year from his nose guard spot.

#6 Kadian Forbis – RB – Senior – Grove Ridgerunners Forbis (5-10, 170, Sr.) rushed for 898 yards and eight touchdowns a year ago. The senior has the talent to make this a memorable season for the Ridgerunners.

#7 Casey Chasteen – LB/DE – Senior – Wyandotte Bears Chasteen (5-9, 215, Sr.) is the type of player that has a nose for the ball. Chasteen can sniff out a run or recognize the pass and drop in coverage.

Based on fan voting in the Grand Lake area hub, here are the top players at seven positions, as well as some runner-ups who are worth a mention.



QB – Braylon Riley – Miami - The Wardogs will look to Riley to execute the offense in 2020.

RB – Kyron Downing – Vinita - SEE EDITOR’S CHOICE

WR/TE – Gabe Arrevillagas – Bluejacket - (6-4, 200, Sr.) will be looked at often as a wide receiver.

OL – Johnny Williamson – Jay - (6-3, 270, Sr.) brings experience and leadership to the offensive line.



LB – Ty Shotpouch – Jay - (5-10, 160, So.) is back at linebacker and had 50 tackles as a freshman and is looking to lead the defense in production this season.

DB – Braden Pittman – Grove - (5-11, 170, Sr.) will be in the backfield causing trouble for opponents.

DL – Trenton Spunaugle – Miami - (6-2, 285, Sr.) will be part of a trio on the line giving the Wardogs three experienced players up front.



RB – Heath Jones – Bluejacket - (6-1, 200, Sr.) will start at tight end and fullback.

OL – Hayden Jones – Bluejacket - (6-0, 220, Jr.) will start at center giving the Chieftains some experience up front.
