Gannon Sherl is a sophomore basketball player for Claremore High School. Since he first tried it out, Gannon has always loved the speed and competitiveness of basketball as well as how it requires team effort.

Over his time playing so far, Gannon’s favorite memory is hitting a buzzer beater three-pointer against Collinsville High School that made the game go into overtime. He also enjoys all the time spent with his team when they go out to eat together and have a great time after each game.

Along with playing basketball, Gannon also is involved in baseball and running track.

Every player has something that motivates them to do their best at every practice and every game. For Gannon, his motivation comes from his coaches, his teammates and his own competitive nature.

“If I do something, I do it to the best of my ability and I do it to win,” said Gannon.

Being diligent to always try and work your hardest is very important to him. Gannon also sees how valuable having a strong relationship as a team is in basketball.

“My teammates mean everything to me. I know I can always count on them on and off the court. Those are my brothers,” said Gannon.

Every player also has someone in their life that they are trying to make proud by the way that they play. For Gannon, that special someone is his grandmother, who recently passed away.

“She is my role model because she pushed me to be the best version of myself,” said Gannon.

Gannon’s goals for his remaining seasons of high school basketball include raising the gold ball as the Zebras win a basketball state championship plus in the other sports he plays. But above everything else, Gannon wants to always have fun with his teammates along the way.
