Kansas' Rowdy Blackbird - Athlete Spotlight Presented By Pirates Git-N-Split
By Derrick Smith
One thing that most athletes have in common is a sense of competitiveness. While there may be different levels of being competitive, everyone wants to win. That is the same for Rowdy Blackbird, who says that he always wants to win, no matter what the game is.
“Being successful requires a lot of hard work,” he said. “You also have to be a competitor. For me, it does not matter what I am playing or who I am playing against. I always want to win. It could be anything from baseball to Xbox”
Rowdy is a senior at Kansas High School. He plays pitcher and third base for the Comets baseball team. Blackbird says that he has played baseball since he was old enough to throw a baseball. There have been a few people that have made big impacts on his life. But Rowdy says that there is one person who has made the biggest impression on him. “My dad is definitely my biggest role model,” he stated. “I have and will always look up to him. He does so much for all of us in my family.”
In the classroom, Blackbird says his favorite teacher helped get him out of his comfort zone. “Mr. Pilcher taught me to go and put myself out there,” Rowdy said. “He even got me into acting with our school drama club.”
Along with baseball, Rowdy is also a member of the school’s basketball team. He also is a part of the drama club, beta club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and also a member of the Senior Committee.
“I just want to thank God for giving me the ability and talent to play the sports I love.”
