Locust Grove’s Danny Stone - Athlete Spotlight Presented By Northeast Tech
The Northeast Tech Athlete of the Month is Danny Stone, a junior football player and powerlifter at Locust Grove High School. Stone plays running back and linebacker. He closed the season on a high note rushing for over 140 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. He already can’t wait to improve for next season.
“I’d like to get a lot faster and just tackling wise I need to get better at wrapping up and continue to improve on the defensive side of the ball,” said Stone.
Danny also competes in power lifting and placed in every meet this season, but he got hurt before regionals. Stones max this season was 960 pounds total on the bench press, deadlift and squat.
Stone is currently in his first year of the Electrical Technology program at the Northeast Tech Kansas campus. He has nothing but praise for the class.
“It’s a really good program to be in,” said Stone, “we do a lot of hands on work like motor controls and we do a lot of safety training, we were working on our ossaa 10 that would allow us to work anywhere in the electrical industry.”
The first year of the program teaches PLC work, while the second year focuses on residential.
“I’ve definitely gotten a headstart on my career, I’ve wanted to work in the electrical field for a while now and this just helped jumpstart that for me, the program is good because what we get to do in high school a lot of people don’t have the equipment that we get to work with and learn about,” said Stone. After high school Stone plans on attending OSU to pursue a career as a high voltage lineman.
