Rhett Minson Pryor State Farm

Always on the go… is the best way to describe the sports schedule for Rhett Looney a senior at Pryor High School. After starting the school year playing fastpitch softball before moving inside to play basketball, the multi-talented athlete will soon take her skills to the slowpitch softball season in addition to running track for the Lady Tigers. Playing softball since she was in the sixth grade, Looney’s love for the sport is matched by her productivity while playing second base as well as outfield in the Tigers lineup.

“What I love most about my team and teammates is our work ethic,” said Looney.

The Pryor softball team, like other slowpitch softball teams, did not play a season in 2020 due to the pandemic. Looney and her teammates are excited to return to the field and play.

“We are very excited to return to competition,” said Looney. “We just built a new softball and baseball complex. It is really nice.”

This season, Pryor returns several players with experience and look like a team that could contend. For Looney, being on the field and competing is what she loves most about the game.

Upon graduation this spring from Pryor, Looney will shift her softball career to the next level.

“My plans after I graduate are to play softball at Northeastern State University where I will major in physical education and eventually become a coach,” said Looney.

Her goal of playing at the next level is something she has worked hard for and is very excited to make come true. But becoming a coach and leading young players is the ultimate destination. Even in her free time you can find Looney working on her game. She’s either playing sports or working on her skills.

Looney said there have been many influences in her life, but none bigger than her family and coaches.

“The biggest influence in my life, on and off the field would have to be my family and coaches,” said Looney.

The countless hours spent at tournaments and games over her playing career is paying off in the form of an opportunity to play at the next level. But before she takes the field for NSU, Looney and her teammates have some unfinished business.
